Viber + Linux Debian 9 - instruction -

Viber installation instruction for Linux Debian 9 Stretch and other Debian- and Ubuntu based distributions.

The point is that a successful Viber installation requires the libssl1.0.0 package that is missing in the Debian 9 Stretch repository. The problem solves with download and install the package.

  1. Download from the Debian repository the last version of libssl1.0.0 for the compatible architecture. Direct links: amd64, i386.

    If the links are broken that means the package was updated. So go here and find the right package compatible with your PC architecture. It will be looks like: libssl1.0.0_1.0.1t-1+deb8<ver>_<arch>.deb.

    You can also do a good deed by leaving a message in the comments about the need to update links.

  2. Install freshly downloaded package:
    $ sudo dpkg -i libssl1.0.0_1.0.1t-1+deb8u9_amd64.deb

    $ sudo dpkg -i libssl1.0.0_1.0.1t-1+deb8u9_i386.deb
  3. Download and install Viber
    $ wget
    $ sudo dpkg -i viber.deb

    Don't pay attention to the error messages.

    $ sudo apt-get install -f
  5. Check and enjoy the result!
